Clearing of sand from Anse La Raye River, legal

THE REMOVAL OF SAND IS IN AN EFFORT TO DRAIN STAGNATED WATER FROM THE ANSE LA RAYE PLAYING FIELD.

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Ports, Energy and Labour wishes to confirm that a “Sand Permit” was approved and issued for the clearing of sand from the mouth of the Anse La Raye River, which had been blocked for some time now.

The permit was granted by the Office of the Chief Engineer on May 12, 2020 following review of a request received on May 11, 2020 for removal of the sand from the river mouth in an effort to drain the stagnated water from around the Anse La Raye Playing Field.

Permit NO.2 of 05/2020 (Anse La Raye River) was valid for five (5) working days Friday May 15th and Monday May 18th to Thursday May 21st, 2020.

The permit requirements stipulate that the river front shall be left in a pristine condition upon completion of the desilting works and that any damages sustained to the access road shall be repaired at the cost of the Office of the Parliamentary Representative for Anse La Raye.

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Ports, Energy and Labour assures residents of Anse La Raye and citizens of Saint Lucia that the authorisation of such “Sand Permits” is a customary exercise and in granted in keeping with the Beach Protection Act CAP 6.04 of the Revised Laws of Saint Lucia.
